Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of December 30, 2015.
Epidemiological Situation
The bronchiolitis outbreak that began in early December intensified during the week of December 21–27, 2015. Overall, during the period from December 7 to 27, 2015, bronchiolitis accounted for nearly one-third of emergency room visits among children under 2 years of age and more than half of hospitalizations in this age group.Data from the island’s hospital laboratories confirmed this trend and showed that RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), the primary virus responsible for bronchiolitis, has been circulating on the island since November. In this context, it is important to reiterate the appropriate preventive measures to limit the spread of this outbreak.
