Key Points

  • In week 50 (December 11–17, 2023), visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups compared to the previous week.

  • Among seasonal respiratory indicators, only visits for influenza/influenza-like illness showed a marked increase in Week 50 (+71% among children and +33% among adults, representing 419 and 432 visits, respectively). Visits for suspected COVID-19 and bronchitis continued to rise moderately, respectively among children (+12%, or +72 visits) and among adults only (+8%, or +145 visits).

  • Among children, after a week of stabilization (-1% in Week 49), visits for pneumonia were slightly down in Week 50 (-9%, or -269 visits), but remained at a level well above that of previous years.

  • Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis were down for the second consecutive week (-12%, or -266 visits, vs. -9% in Week 49).

  • Among other indicators, as in Week 49, there was an increase in visits related to digestive conditions, primarily among children for gastroenteritis (+10%), vomiting (+10%), and abdominal pain in children aged 2–14 (+9%).
