Living conditions, health, and perinatal care: the unique characteristics of Réunion.

In Réunion, life expectancy is approaching that of mainland France, but perinatal indicators remain poor, largely due to more frequent and persistent risk factors and the unfavorable economic and social situation, with the highest unemployment rate among French departments. The standard of living is also affected by consumer prices that are higher than in mainland France. At the same time, Réunionese society is changing rapidly and facing a shift in family structures and an increase in single-parent families (25%).
