Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of January 7, 2020.
Key Points
Dengue virus circulation continues at a lower level than that observed in 2019 during the same period (W52–W01). In S52/2019, 15 cases were reported, and 1 case was reported in S01/2020 (data not consolidated in S01/2020 due to the holiday season), bringing the total to 18,206 confirmed cases since the beginning of 2019;
St. Louis, St. Leu, and St. Paul were the most affected municipalities in S52/2019 and S01/2020: 8 cases were reported there;
The co-circulation of the two serotypes, DENV1 and DENV2, continues across the entire island, and two probable cases of secondary dengue were identified in week 52 of 2019;
The DENV3 serotype was detected in a person who, to the best of our knowledge, had not reported traveling to an area where dengue is circulating. Further investigations are underway;
The holiday season is conducive to the importation of arbovirus cases and requires raising awareness among travelers returning from trips.
