COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for December 10, 2020

Key Points

In Week 49, the epidemic showed a concerning trend due to a very slight decrease in SARS-CoV-2 circulation, following four weeks of sharp decline after the peak of the second wave:

  • Slowing decline in the number of new cases (-6% vs. -31% the previous week)

  • Stabilization of the positivity rate

  • Very moderate decrease in the number of hospitalizations and ICU admissions

  • Stabilization in the trends of key contact tracing indicators

  • Indicators remain at a high level

  • Most affected regions: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Grand-Est

Mortality

  • High mortality

  • Very high excess mortality in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Prevention

  • Individual prevention measures and contact reduction must be maintained

  • If symptoms develop, immediate isolation is required, and a test should be performed as soon as possible
