Perinatal Care in Martinique: Current Knowledge and Intervention Strategies.

In terms of perinatal care, Martinique faces notably higher rates of infant mortality and preterm births than in mainland France. The regional health plan has established several priorities in perinatal care: addressing factors that may affect children’s health and development, facilitating access to voluntary terminations of pregnancy (VTP), and ensuring support for psychological vulnerability during pregnancy... A 25% decrease in the use of abortion among minors was observed between 2010 and 2015. Among the challenges in health promotion, a key priority—given the number of unwanted pregnancies—is to expand information and education in schools regarding sexual health and gender relations.
