COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of April 16, 2021

Key points

Martinique

After a generally stable trend that remained at a high level for six consecutive weeks (August 2021–13), all surveillance indicators showed a marked increase last week (2021–14). Incidence rates (+45%) and positivity rates (+2 percentage points) are rising, exceeding their respective alert thresholds, despite a testing rate that also increased (+19%) compared to week 2021-13. In private practice, the number of consultations also rose (+70%). In hospitals, activity has intensified with a higher number of new hospitalizations, including those in intensive care. The UK variant (20I/50Y.V1) is actively circulating in the archipelago (>90% of screened RT-PCR tests). The new clusters involve temporary gatherings of people (religious services, private gatherings, parties) that took place during the Easter holidays. The effective reproduction number (Rt) calculated from SI-DEP data for week 2021-14 was significantly greater than 1: 1.21 [1.12–1.32].

Saint-Barthélemy

Virological surveillance indicators are stable compared to last week and show a significant decrease compared to previous weeks. The positivity rate has been below the alert threshold for three weeks. Activity in private practice and emergency departments for suspected COVID-19 remained low and stable.

Saint Martin

The downward trend continued last week, with a positivity rate remaining below 5% (vigilance threshold) and an incidence rate below the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, despite a high testing rate. Activity in private practices and emergency departments for suspected COVID-19 cases also remained at a low level. No clusters have been reported since early February.
