Epidemiological Surveillance in Corsica. Update as of March 18, 2020.

Key Points

Influenza

Epidemic period. Trends in influenza activity indicators (particularly Sentinelles), likely linked to the COVID-19 epidemic.

  • Emergency departments - Activity related to visits for flu-like symptoms accounted for 1% of all-cause activity in week 11, stable compared to the previous week.

  • SOS Médecins - The proportion of activity related to influenza-like illnesses is down compared to the previous week.

  • Sentinelles Network - The incidence rate of influenza-like illness reported by the Sentinelles network in week 11, not yet consolidated, is 136 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [49; 223]). Activity is up compared to the previous week.

  • Surveillance of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in facilities for vulnerable populations - Since the start of surveillance, no clusters of ARI cases have been reported in facilities for the elderly or at-risk individuals.

  • Surveillance of influenza cases admitted to intensive care - Since the start of surveillance (November 2019), 5 severe cases of influenza in intensive care have been reported. None of the patients had been vaccinated (data available for all patients).

Gastroenteritis

  • Emergency departments - Emergency department activity related to gastroenteritis in week 11 is up compared to the previous week.

  • SOS Médecins - Activity at SOS Médecins clinics related to gastroenteritis in week 11 is down compared to the previous week.

  • Sentinelles Network - The incidence rate for acute diarrhea reported by the Sentinelles network in week 11, not yet consolidated, is 33 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [0; 75]). Activity is stable compared to the previous week.
