AIDS Surveillance in France (as of March 31, 1995)

Since the start of the epidemic, 35,773 cases of AIDS (35,198 adults and 575 children) have been reported, of whom 60.6% are known to have died. The estimated total number of AIDS cases diagnosed since the start of the epidemic ranges between 41,500 and 45,000. With nearly 6 reported AIDS cases per 10,000 inhabitants between April 1, 1994, and March 31, 1995, Paris and French Guiana remain the departments most affected by the epidemic. Next come Guadeloupe and the Alpes-Maritimes (about 3 cases per 10,000) and the departments in the inner suburbs of Paris (2 cases per 10,000 inhabitants).
