Vaccination

Vaccination

Contagious diseases most often affect children at a very young age. Because children are particularly vulnerable, they are a priority target for vaccination programs.

Our Mission

  • Promote vaccination among the general public and healthcare professionals

  • Monitoring changes in public perception of vaccination and among healthcare professionals, and building their confidence

  • Conduct epidemiological surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases

  • Monitoring vaccination coverage

  • Contributing to expert analysis of vaccination policies at the national and European levels.

Data

Vaccination coverage refers to the proportion of people who have been vaccinated in a given population at a specific point in time. To assess vaccination coverage, Santé publique France has conducted several surveys.

Santé publique France uses data from the Covid Vaccine Database, operated by the National Health Insurance Fund, to produce indicators on the number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 and vaccination coverage in France.

Vaccination Uptake and Reasons for Hesitancy: Results from the 2024 Edition of the Santé publique France Barometer

Public Health France, notably through its Public Health France Barometer survey, has been monitoring vaccination uptake since 2000 in mainland France among adults aged 18 to 75. Public Health France also studies public opinion on vaccines by surveying the population about their hesitancy toward specific vaccinations. According to the 2024 edition of the Public Health France Barometer:

  • 80% of adults aged 18 to 79 are in favor of vaccination.

  • The socioeconomic gradient persists in 2024, with higher vaccination uptake among those with higher levels of education and better financial circumstances.

  • Vaccination against COVID-19 is the one that elicits the most reluctance (25%), followed by vaccination against the flu (7%).
