Epidemiology of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease in France, 1992–2002. National Surveillance of Infectious Diseases, 2001–2003

Key points: - From 1992 to 2002, 991 deaths due to confirmed or probable CJD; - 805 (81.2%) sporadic cases; 91 iatrogenic cases; 89 genetic cases; and 6 vCJD cases; - Increased incidence of sporadic cases among those aged 59 and older; - Among the 91 iatrogenic cases, 80 (88%) are linked to treatment with extracted growth hormone.
