Key Points
Dengue
- Dengue activity is low throughout the country.
Chikungunya
Since late January (Week 04), 2,130 cases of chikungunya have been laboratory-confirmed in French Guiana, including 19 in Week 42 (unconsolidated data). The virus continues to circulate throughout the territory:
- Western Coast: The chikungunya outbreak has ended in this sector, which has been in the post-outbreak phase since S38. In S42, viral circulation was very low in this part of the territory; however, vigilance must be maintained, as a resurgence of the epidemic cannot be ruled out given the regional situation.
- Savanas: The number of visits to the CHK emergency department for suspected chikungunya remained stable, with visits related to chikungunya accounting for more than 5% of total activity. The epidemic continues in this sector.
- Cayenne Island: In Week 42, two active outbreaks were being monitored in the area. The number of confirmed cases remained low, as did activity in the CHC emergency department. Cayenne Island remains in the outbreak phase.
- Maroni: No new cases were biologically confirmed in Week 42 in this sector, which is in the sporadic transmission phase.
- Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock: No new cases were biologically confirmed in Week 42. These sectors are in the epidemiological surveillance phase.
