Health Monitoring in Réunion. Bulletin of March 20, 2026.

Key Points

Mpox

  • 7 cases (including 3 imported cases) were identified in Réunion between S05 and S12/2026.

Leptospirosis

  • A seasonal resurgence of leptospirosis is currently underway at a high level: 86 cases have occurred since the beginning of the year.

Dengue and Chikungunya

  • A limited number of locally acquired arbovirus cases have been reported since the beginning of the year. To date, 24 cases of locally acquired dengue and 18 cases of locally acquired chikungunya have been detected. A cluster of dengue cases has been observed in Saint-Leu.

Malaria

  • Since December, there has been an increase in the number of imported malaria cases, primarily among travelers returning from the Comoros. Nine cases were reported in December and 19 in January, coinciding with the end of school breaks. A decline began in February (7 cases) and became more pronounced in March (1 case to date). We urge all stakeholders to remain vigilant and remind them that, until proven otherwise, any fever upon return from an endemic area should be considered a case of malaria.

Influenza and Influenza-Like Illness

  • Health and virological indicators remain at a very low level.

Bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age

  • Health and virological indicators are low in intensity and have no public health impact.

Gastroenteritis

  • Activity is stable in both hospitals and the community.

COVID-19

  • Health and virological indicators remain low.
