Summary
In Week 42 (October 14–20), total emergency department visits and hospitalizations following visits increased among children under 2 years of age (+4.1%, or +921 visits, and +9.0%, or +254 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.
Over the past week, the main increases in visits were for respiratory conditions:
among children under 2 years of age: bronchiolitis (+19.2%, or +177 visits), asthma attacks (+19%, or +67 visits),
among children under 15: influenza (+36%, or +30 visits) and pneumonia (+14.7%, or +56 visits),
among those over 75 years of age: bronchitis (+22.3%, or +67 visits).
There was also an increase in visits for isolated fever (+7.5%, or +201 visits), malaise (+14.7%, or +96 visits), and conjunctivitis (+9.9%, or +30 visits) among children under 15.
