COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for May 29, 2020

Key Points

  • For more than 7 weeks, epidemiological indicators of SARS-CoV-2 circulation have been declining or remaining at low levels in mainland France:

    • a decrease in COVID-19-related visits to hospital emergency rooms, and the number of SOS Médecins calls remaining at a low level

    • a decrease in the number of new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions of COVID-19 patients, the number of hospitalized patients, and the number of patients in the ICU

  • First release of indicators based on data reported by a very large number of laboratories via SI-DEP, now enabling a nearly exhaustive count of confirmed COVID-19 cases in France

  • Increase in the number of clusters: 109 clusters reported as of May 27, 2020, with no confirmed community transmission

  • No signs of a resurgence of the epidemic

  • In Mayotte, SARS-CoV-2 circulation remains at a high level

  • In French Guiana, increased hospital activity and SARS-CoV-2 positivity rates in the context of active clusters with a risk of community transmission

  • Less consistent adherence to protective measures over time; since the start of lockdown, only mask-wearing in public has increased
