COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for May 7, 2020

Key Points

  • For the past five weeks, epidemiological indicators of SARS-CoV-2 transmission have been declining in France, with the exception of Mayotte

    • A decrease in calls to SOS Médecins and hospital emergency rooms for COVID-19, reflecting a decline in new infections

    • Decrease in the number of new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions of COVID-19 patients, the number of hospitalized patients, and the number of patients in the ICU

  • Increased circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in Mayotte

  • Patients at risk for COVID-19

    • ICU: 80% of cases have comorbidities and 53% are aged 65 and older

    • Deaths: at least 84% with comorbidities and 92% aged 65 and older

  • Excess mortality from all causes at the national level, particularly pronounced in the Grand Est and Île-de-France regions

  • Less consistent adoption of protective measures over time; since the start of lockdown, only mask-wearing in public has increased
