Increase in the number of gonococcal infections identified by the RENAGO network

A network of clinical laboratories, RENAGO, identified a sharp increase in gonorrhea cases in France in 1998. This article analyzes and describes this increase, discusses it in light of other available data, and puts it into perspective in terms of the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV transmission.
