CoviPrev: Epidemiological Update for the Centre-Val de Loire Region. March 2021

Key Points

Adoption of protective measures and behaviors

  • Decreased adherence to physical distancing recommendations and an increase in risky social behaviors from the lifting of the first lockdown (mid-May) through mid-September 2020.

  • A relaxation of precautionary behaviors likely contributed to the resurgence of viral circulation during the summer of 2020, its acceleration in September (notably with the resumption of school and work activities), and the onset of the second wave of the pandemic beginning in October 2020.

  • Lower adherence to preventive measures (hygiene and physical distancing) observed among men and people under 35 years of age.

  • Lower compliance with lockdown measures was observed among the highest socioeconomic groups.

Mental Health

  • A general and ongoing decline in mental health indicators among participants in the Centre-Val de Loire region in the CoviPrev surveys since September 2020.

  • A continuous increase in sleep problems and depressive symptoms reported by participants in the Centre-Val de Loire region.

  • High regional prevalence rates for reported sleep problems and depressive disorders, exceeding the national average and those of other regions.

  • Anxiety and depressive disorders and sleep problems are statistically associated with being in a difficult financial situation, being a woman, and having a history of psychological disorders.
