Key Points

COVID-19

  • Stabilization of incidence, positivity, and testing rates nationwide.

  • Increase in the number of cases among people aged 75 and older, and in nursing homes.

  • Increase in hospitalizations and ICU admissions since early January.

  • Regions still most affected: Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Grand Est, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

  • COVID-19-related mortality remains high.

  • As of January 21, 2021, 141 cases of infection with emerging variants had been recorded in France: 131 cases of the VOC 202012/01 variant (United Kingdom) and 10 cases of the 501Y.V2 variant (South Africa). For the Centre-Val de Loire region, 13 cases of the UK variant have been confirmed: 8 in Eure-et-Loir, 4 in Loiret, and 1 in Indre-et-Loire. This count does not include any secondary or even tertiary cases identified during investigations that were not sequenced.

Winter Epidemics

  • Bronchiolitis: activity related to bronchiolitis was stable at SOS Médecins and in hospital emergency departments

  • Gastroenteritis: activity related to gastroenteritis was down at SOS Médecins and slightly up in hospital emergency departments
