Key Points

Oscour® network emergency department visit indicators:

  • Among adults, the monthly number of emergency department visits for mental health issues in May 2022 was higher than in 2021 and higher than the average for the same period from 2018 to 2020. However, the share of monthly activity was lower than in previous years during the same period. The monthly number of visits was generally higher in 2021 compared to the average for the years 2018 to 2020, but the share of monthly activity was lower.

  • Among those under 18, the monthly number of emergency room visits for mental health issues in May 2022 was significantly higher than in 2021 and the average for the same period from 2018 to 2020. However, the share of activity was lower than in 2021 and stable compared to previous years during the same period. The monthly number of visits was generally higher in 2021 compared to previous years, and the monthly activity share was also higher.

  • The other mental health monitoring indicators from the Oscour® network (listed on page 4) show no notable changes.

Indicators from the COVIPREV survey:

In Wave 34 (May 9–16, 2022), no statistically significant changes were observed. However:

  • An upward trend compared to the previous wave in anxiety disorders and suicidal thoughts reported over the past 12 months.

In waves 33–34 (April 8–May 16, 2022), no statistically significant changes were observed. Nevertheless:

  • An upward trend in the current life satisfaction score.

  • A downward trend in reports of anxiety disorders and sleep problems.
