Key Findings
A return to normal levels of all-cause mortality among people aged 85 and older was observed starting in week 02.
For the two SOS Médecins d'Alsace associations, activity related to influenza and influenza-like illnesses continues to rise and currently accounts for approximately 20% of each association’s caseload. In week 05 (January 26–February 1), the epidemic continued nationwide.
Since September 1, 2014, 77 respiratory specimens have tested positive for the influenza virus, including 49 in weeks 03 and 04.
The occurrence of severe influenza cases requiring hospitalization in intensive care units continues. Since November 1, 2014, the 12 intensive care units in Alsace have reported 21 cases, 3 of whom have died. Nearly all cases are linked to the type A virus.
In week 04 (January 19–25, 2015), 87 respiratory samples were collected, and among the positive results, 28 were for influenza (32%).
In week 05, the number of bronchiolitis diagnoses made by the SOS Médecins associations in Alsace remained low. The proportion of bronchiolitis diagnoses accounted for just over 5% of these associations’ total activity in week 05.
In week 05, the weekly number of diagnoses of gastroenteritis and diarrhea made by the SOS Médecins associations in Alsace remained low.
