Health Monitoring in the Grand-Est Region. Update as of December 1, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In Week 47 of 2022, increased circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in the Grand Est region

  • Since incidence data have been incomplete since Week 44, they should be interpreted with caution;

  • Increase in incidence across all age groups;

  • Decrease in the number of new hospitalizations across all departments and stability in critical care admissions compared to Week 46 of 2022;

  • Increase in the number of emergency room visits for COVID-19 and a slight rise in the number of consultations for COVID-19 at SOS Médecins clinics in the region;

  • Departmental incidence rates range from 309 (Ardennes) to 510 (Haute-Marne) new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. They are rising in all departments except the Vosges, where the incidence rate is stable;

  • The screening rate is 34%, and nearly all screened tests indicate a suspected Omicron variant (for tests where the mutation is sought and interpretable). In week 47 of 2022, 91% of screened samples carried a mutation consistent with the new Omicron sublineages, including BA.5 and its various sublineages (including BQ.1.1 and BF.7) and BA.4.

Bronchiolitis

  • OSCOUR®: In week 47 of 2022, data are unconsolidated due to a technical issue. However, the proportion of emergency department visits related to bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age continues to rise. It stands at 34%, representing 714 visits. The proportion of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis among all hospitalizations following an emergency department visit was 64% in week 47-2022.

  • SOS Médecins: In week 47 of 2022, the proportion of cases handled by SOS Médecins related to bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age was 18%, an increase compared to week 46 of 2022.

  • Virology data: According to results from the virology laboratories at the University Hospitals of Nancy, Reims, and Strasbourg, in week 47 of 2022, the circulation of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) remains at a high level.

Influenza and influenza-like illnesses

  • OSCOUR®: In week 47 of 2022, data are not consolidated due to a technical issue. The number of emergency department visits for influenza-like illness, all ages, increased in week 47 of 2022 compared to the previous week (69 versus 52 in week 46 of 2022). The proportion of activity remains below 0.5%.

  • SOS Médecins: The number of consultations for influenza-like illness, all ages, is increasing compared to the previous week (311 consultations versus 255 in week 46 of 2022), representing 4% of activity.

  • Severe cases: Since the start of surveillance, 2 severe cases of influenza have been reported by intensive care units in the region.

  • Virology data: According to data from the virology laboratories at the University Hospitals of Nancy, Reims, and Strasbourg, the initial circulation of influenza viruses was observed in week 47 of 2022.

Chikungunya, dengue, Zika

  • 7 imported cases of dengue as of 11/30/22 in the Grand-Est region.
