Health Monitoring During the Heat Wave in Hauts-de-France. Update as of August 18, 2020.

  • Total healthcare utilization: Between August 6 and 12, an increase in emergency room visits for all causes was observed across all age groups, as well as in SOS Médecins calls. Hospitalizations following emergency room visits for all causes (ages 75 and older and all ages) also increased during the same period.

  • Healthcare utilization for the iCanicule composite indicator: Between August 6 and 12, an increase was observed in the proportion of SOS Médecins calls related to iCanicule among coded calls and in the proportion of emergency department visits related to iCanicule among coded visits (ages 75 and older and all ages). The proportion of hospitalizations following iCanicule-related visits (ages 75 and older and all ages) among coded hospitalizations also increased during this period. Starting on August 12, the indicators declined compared to the previous week, during which the heat wave was at its peak.
