During the summer of 1999, a new cluster of four cases of airport-associated malaria was observed in France. Analysis of these cases highlights that airport-associated malaria, which is rare and difficult to diagnose, can occur outside of high-risk occupational groups, among individuals living near an airport. It also underscores the importance of adhering to insecticide treatment protocols for aircraft arriving from malaria-endemic areas. Furthermore, it highlights the significance of indirect hematological signs of malaria, particularly thrombocytopenia.
