Short-term relationships between urban air pollution and home visits by SOS Médecins Bordeaux. Scientific Watch Days, November 29 and 30, 2006, Paris

The relationship between air pollution levels and morbidity is generally studied through hospital admissions, which represent only a portion of the morbidity that may be linked to pollution. Cire Aquitaine has developed a partnership with SOS Médecins Bordeaux, which handles an average of 400 calls per day across 74 municipalities covering nearly 60% of the population of the Gironde department. A database tracking the association’s activity since 1998 provides information on the diagnoses made daily by doctors. The objective of this study is therefore to estimate the short-term relationships between urban air pollution indicators and home medical visits conducted by the SOS Médecins Bordeaux association.
