COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy as of August 13, 2021
Key Points
In week 31 in Normandy, the situation remains unfavorable, with a continued increase in hospital activity related to COVID-19.
The regional incidence rate continues to rise, albeit at a slower pace. The increase is most pronounced in the Orne department (85/100,000, +37%), but Calvados remains the department with the highest incidence rate, although it is declining (181/100,000, -13%). Across the region, the highest incidence rates remain in the age groups under 60, but a significant increase is observed among those over 90.
At the same time, the number of new hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care continues to rise, again most markedly among those over 90.
Given the persistently high level of viral circulation, the widespread spread of the Delta variant, and the resurgence of COVID-19-related hospital activity, it is important to encourage vaccination for all eligible individuals, with the goal of achieving sufficient herd immunity and protecting the most vulnerable. It is also essential to maintain a high level of adherence to prevention and testing measures, contact tracing, and compliance with isolation protocols in the event of infection or contact with a confirmed case.
