COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy as of August 19, 2021
Key Points
In week 32 in Normandy, the situation remained unfavorable, with a continued increase in hospital activity related to COVID-19.
The regional incidence rate was stable compared to Week 31, but there was a marked increase in the Seine-Maritime department (+16%), with an incidence rate of 137 per 100,000. In the Calvados department, the incidence rate continued to decline (-27%) but remained relatively high at 132 per 100,000. The testing rate is increasing. The highest incidence rates remained in age groups under 60, particularly among those aged 20–39 and 30–39, but with a downward trend. At the same time, there has been a slight increase in the number of new hospitalizations and a stabilization in the number of admissions to intensive care.
Given the persistently high level of viral circulation, the widespread spread of the Delta variant, and the resurgence of COVID-19-related hospital activity, it is important to encourage vaccination for all eligible individuals, with the goal of achieving sufficient herd immunity and protecting the most vulnerable. It is also essential to maintain a high level of adherence to prevention and testing measures, contact tracing, and compliance with isolation protocols in the event of infection or contact with a confirmed case.
