COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy as of July 30, 2021
Key Points
In Week 29 in Normandy, the situation continued to deteriorate, with epidemiological indicators continuing to rise.
The incidence rate increased by 55% between weeks S28 and S29. The increase in incidence was most pronounced in the Manche department (+74%), but Calvados remains the department with the highest incidence rate (192/100,000). Incidence rates remained high among age groups under 60, particularly among those aged 20–30. However, a slowdown in the rise of incidence rates has been observed in recent days, to be confirmed with the consolidation of data in week 30.
At the same time, the number of new hospitalizations is increasing but remains at low levels, and admissions to intensive care remain stable.
Data from Wave 26 (July 15–21, 2021) of the Coviprev survey show an overall relaxation in the adoption of preventive measures.
Against a backdrop of increased viral circulation and the growing spread of the Delta variant, it is important to encourage vaccination for all eligible individuals, with the aim of achieving a sufficient level of herd immunity and protecting the most vulnerable. It is also essential to maintain a high level of adherence to prevention and testing measures, contact tracing, and compliance with isolation in the event of infection or contact with a confirmed case.
