COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy as of September 16, 2021
Key Points
In week 36 in Normandy, the situation is stabilizing, with the incidence rate declining for the fourth consecutive week and indicators in cities and long-term care facilities on the decline. However, this trend has had little impact so far on hospital indicators, particularly on admissions to intensive care units, which continue to rise. Furthermore, with the start of the school year, we must remain highly vigilant regarding how the situation evolves in the coming weeks.
The regional incidence rate is down compared to week 35 (-28%, 47 per 100,000 inhabitants). At the departmental level, a decrease in the incidence rate is observed in all departments. Three departments have incidence rates close to 30 per 100,000 inhabitants: Manche with 29 per 100,000 inhabitants (-36%), Orne with 32 per 100,000 inhabitants (-35%), and Calvados with 35 per 100,000 (-36%). The incidence rate is decreasing across all age groups. With the implementation of the health pass, the testing rate is declining but remains at high levels.
Given the ongoing viral circulation, widespread transmission of the Delta variant, and the start of the school year, it is important to continue encouraging vaccination for all eligible individuals, while maintaining a high level of adherence to prevention and testing measures, contact tracing, and compliance with isolation protocols in the event of infection or contact with a confirmed case.
