COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy as of September 2, 2021

Key Points

In Week 34 in Normandy, the situation is stabilizing, with the incidence rate declining for the second consecutive week and indicators in cities and long-term care facilities remaining stable or declining. However, this trend has had little impact on hospital indicators so far, and with the start of the school year, close attention must continue to be paid to how the situation evolves in the coming weeks.

The regional incidence rate is down compared to Week 33 (-20%, 90 per 100,000 inhabitants), particularly in the departments of Manche (-32%, 61 per 100,000 inhabitants) and Calvados (-35%, 70 per 100,000 inhabitants). It has decreased to a lesser extent in the Eure (-7%, 93/100,000 inhabitants) and Seine-Maritime (-18%, 111/100,000 inhabitants) and remains stable in the Orne (70/100,000 inhabitants). It is decreasing across all age groups, except among those over 70, where it is stable or slightly increasing. Against the backdrop of the implementation of the health pass, the testing rate has declined slightly but remains at high levels.

Given the continued high viral circulation, widespread transmission of the Delta variant, and the start of the school year, it is important to continue encouraging vaccination for all eligible individuals, while maintaining a high level of adherence to prevention and testing measures, contact tracing, and compliance with isolation protocols in the event of infection or contact with a confirmed case.
