COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy as of September 23, 2021

Key Points

  • In Week 37 in Normandy, the situation is stabilizing, with the incidence rate declining for the fifth consecutive week and indicators showing a downward trend in both urban areas and hospitals. However, this decline still needs to be consolidated due to the start of the school year, which maintains a certain degree of uncertainty regarding how the situation will evolve in the coming weeks.

  • The regional incidence rate was down compared to Week 36 (-32%, 32 per 100,000 inhabitants). At the departmental level, a decrease in the incidence rate was observed in all departments: Orne at 24 per 100,000 inhabitants (-27%), Manche at 23 per 100,000 inhabitants (-23%), and Calvados at 22 per 100,000 (-39%). In Eure and Seine-Maritime, incidence rates were slightly higher, at 36 per 100,000 inhabitants (-37%) and 41 per 100,000 inhabitants (-29%), respectively. Positivity rates were all below 1%. Testing activity increased slightly in Calvados and Seine-Maritime, and decreased in the other departments.

  • Given the ongoing viral circulation, widespread transmission of the Delta variant, and the start of the school year, it is important to continue encouraging vaccination for all eligible individuals, while maintaining a high level of adherence to prevention and testing measures, contact tracing, and compliance with isolation protocols in the event of infection or contact with a confirmed case.
