Health Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Upper and Lower Normandy. Update as of November 28, 2013.
National Situation
In calendar week 46 of 2013, the InVS national update (dated 11/20/13) showed that the number of visits for bronchiolitis in infants at hospital emergency departments in mainland France participating in the OSCOUR® network was once again on the rise following a slight decline observed in week 2013-45 after the All Saints’ Day school break (weeks 2013-43 to 2013-44) (Figure 1). The trend over time in the number of visits is similar to what has been observed during recent epidemic seasons, with the number of visits to hospital emergency departments being lower this season. The InVS national update for week 2013-47 was not available at the time of publication of this report.According to data from the Grog network (week 2013-47), the number of confirmed cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection is rising in hospitals, particularly in the Centre, Upper Normandy, Lower Normandy, and Île-de-France regions. The incidence of bronchiolitis in infants seen in general practice and community pediatrics by sentinel physicians is increasing moderately, particularly in Northern France.
