COVID-19
In Week 51, in Normandy, the spread of Covid-19 accelerated further, with the regional incidence rate (IR) rising to 474 per 100,000 inhabitants, a 57% increase compared to the previous week. This increase is particularly pronounced among those aged 20–39. On December 27, 55.1% of screening tests indicated a profile consistent with Omicron.
Flu
Non-epidemic phase, on the rise: In week 51, the proportion of emergency department visits for flu-like symptoms remained low. The number of consultations was stable and at a level similar to that of 2019–2020. The proportion of activity and the number of consultations for influenza at SOS Médecin remained low and below those observed in 2019–2020. Nevertheless, the number of influenza viruses detected by virology laboratories in the region was rising sharply (20 at Rouen University Hospital and 5 at Caen University Hospital). A first case of severe influenza requiring hospitalization in an intensive care unit for the 2021–2022 season was reported.
Bronchiolitis
Epidemic phase, stable: In week 51, emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were stable, and the proportion of cases remained high, although lower than in the 2019-2020 season. The number of consultations with SOS Médecin was increasing, and the proportion of cases for bronchiolitis remained high.
Gastroenteritis
Activity for gastroenteritis across all age groups in emergency departments was stable in week 51 and remained at a high level, similar to that of previous seasons.
