Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of July 2, 2015.

MortalityIn week 25 of 2015, the mortality rate recorded by the civil registry offices participating in the surveillance program was below the expected levels for this period.

Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: According to available data, emergency department activity for those aged 75 and older is in line with expectations. Emergency department activity for children under 1 year of age is on the rise, approaching the alert threshold.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne Since May 1, 32 suspected cases have been reported. Among them, 1 imported case of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. In total, as of June 26, in the 20 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 206 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 23 imported cases of dengue and 7 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. There are no locally acquired cases.

Notifiable Diseases (ND)No new reports this week.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AG) In Aquitaine, as at the national level, activity for gastroenteritis remains low, within expected seasonal ranges.

Asthma and AllergiesIn Aquitaine, as well as nationwide, consultations for asthma are stable or declining. According to SOS Médecins, allergy-related activity is slightly increasing. Forecast for this week: moderate pollen allergy risk for grass pollen in the region. Note: Risk of an increase in these conditions linked to ozone pollution peaks in S27-2015.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: A high number of enterovirus meningitis cases (10 virology reports from the University Hospital and 8 from Oscour®), consistent with what is observed nationwide.

ChickenpoxIn Aquitaine, chickenpox activity is low, in line with expected levels for this time of year.

Heat-related illnesses: An increase in heat-related illnesses according to the Oscour® network and SOS Médecins, consistent with the rise in temperatures in Week 26. A continued rise in these indicators is expected in Week 27 due to the intense heat wave of undetermined duration, according to Météo France.
