Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 4, 2015.

MortalityIn Week 21 of 2015, the mortality rates recorded by the civil registry offices participating in the surveillance program remained, as in previous weeks, within the usual range.

Emergency department visits by at-risk populations: According to available data, emergency department activity for people aged 75 and older and those under 1 year of age is in line with expectations and remains slightly below the expected values for the period.

Chikungunya and dengueSince May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in the Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne departments, which are infested with Aedes albopictus, 16 suspected cases have been reported. Among them, 2 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed.

Notifiable Diseases (ND) No unusual situation this week.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)In Aquitaine, activity is low, below expected seasonal levels. Nationally, activity is stable or declining, within expected seasonal ranges.

Asthma and allergies: In Aquitaine, asthma-related consultations are on the rise, while those for allergies are declining. Forecast for this week: high to very high pollen allergy risk (grass pollen) in the region.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: According to the virology laboratory at Bordeaux University Hospital, influenza virus circulation has ceased; most samples are positive for rhinovirus.

ChickenpoxIn Aquitaine, the number of people seeking medical care for chickenpox is declining, close to the expected levels for this time of year.

Heat-related illnesses: The Sacs system has been reactivated from June 1 to August 31, 2015. No significant changes in indicators. No heatwave is forecast by Météo France as of June 3, 2015, despite rising temperatures.
