Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 12, 2015.

Mortality: Since early January, an increase in mortality has been observed, primarily among older adults. The figures recorded in Week 5 show a slight decrease compared to the previous week but remain above the alert threshold.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populationsAccording to available data, emergency room activity among vulnerable populations (under 1 year of age and 75 years and older) remains close to the alert threshold. This trend has been observed for several weeks in Aquitaine.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situation this week.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE)Moderate activity in Aquitaine (below epidemic thresholds). Activity is stable or even declining, within the expected range for the season.

Influenza and influenza-like illnessesIn Aquitaine, activity continues to intensify, with 22% of cases attributed to influenza according to SOS Médecins and 1.5% according to Oscour®, along with an increase in reports of respiratory infections in nursing homes and severe cases of influenza in intensive care.

BronchiolitisActivity is declining according to data from SOS Médecins and Oscour®. Activity in the AquiRespi network remains stable, with 114 cases treated during the last shift.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: Significant circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses according to Bordeaux University Hospital, particularly influenza A (58%) and coronaviruses (18%).

Carbon monoxide poisoning (update as of 02/11/15)Since Sept. 2014, 35 episodes of CO poisoning affecting 118 people in Aquitaine (2 deaths). Nationally, 27 deaths have been recorded since Sept. 2014.
