Key points

Bronchiolitis

  • SOS Médecins: The number of cases diagnosed with bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age was slightly higher than the previous week. In week 42-2023, 24 cases involving a diagnosis of bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age were recorded, representing 7.0% of the overall activity of SOS Médecins associations in this age group (22 cases in week 41-2023).

  • Oscour® Network: Consultations for the diagnosis of bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age increased compared to the previous week. In week 42-2023, 119 visits for this diagnosis in this age group were recorded, representing 8.0% of visits in this age group (94 visits in week 41-2023). Of these visits, 31 were followed by hospitalization, representing a hospitalization rate of 26.1% for this diagnosis and 16.5% of all hospitalizations in this age group.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: A marked decrease in the number of cases involving suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and the associated share of activity was observed (110 cases, or 249 cases per 10,000 consultations); this was true across all age groups, particularly among those under 65.

  • Oscour® Network: visits for suspected COVID-19 were also down compared to the previous week (245 emergency room visits, or 82 per 10,000 consultations). Of these visits, 42% were followed by hospitalization.

Gastroenteritis

  • In private practice, according to data from the Sentinelles network, the incidence rate of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice was 81 per 100,000 inhabitants [40; 122], an increase compared to previous weeks.

  • According to data from the region’s SOS Médecins associations, gastroenteritis activity was moderate in week 42 of 2023. Although the number of procedures for a diagnosis of gastroenteritis remained stable compared to the previous week, their share of overall activity was increasing compared to previous weeks (Figure 12). In week 42, 287 cases across all age groups for this diagnosis were recorded, representing 6.5% of the overall activity of the SOS Médecins associations (versus 286 cases in week 41).

  • In hospital settings, according to data reported by emergency departments to the Oscour® network, gastroenteritis activity was moderate in week 42. Visits across all age groups for a diagnosis of gastroenteritis had been increasing in the preceding weeks, particularly among children under 5 years of age. In week 42-2023, 397 visits for gastroenteritis were recorded (including 200 involving patients under 5 years of age), representing 1.3% of all visits (compared to 368 visits in week 41, including 177 involving patients under 15 years of age).
