Launch of the Esteban study by the InVS (Health Study on the Environment, Biomonitoring, Physical Activity, and Nutrition) Under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Energy, and with the support of the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (Inpes), the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) launched Esteban on April 14, 2014, a public health study focusing on the environment, diet, physical activity, and common chronic diseases. The objectives of this study are to:
Measure the population’s exposure to more than a hundred chemicals present in the environment;
Describe trends in dietary habits, physical activity, and the nutritional status of the population;
Provide an objective overview of chronic diseases and their risk factors in France.
Conducted among a national sample of 4,000 adults aged 18 to 74 and 1,000 children aged 6 to 17, Esteban will provide a better understanding of the health status of the population living in France. Participant recruitment will take place over a minimum of 12 months starting April 14, 2014, and will be conducted in four waves concluding in the summer of 2015. For the 5,000 participants, selected at random, Esteban will offer a comprehensive and free health assessment that includes medical examinations and laboratory tests. The study will provide essential insights for healthcare professionals and public authorities in guiding and implementing public health programs.
