Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) - Situation Update as of June 25, 2014 Since the beginning of 2014, cases of EVD have been reported in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. This disease is generally more commonly reported in Central Africa. It is important to note that other endemic diseases in the region, such as malaria or other viruses causing VHF (Lassa VHF or yellow fever), are circulating and may complicate diagnosis. To date, this is the largest Ebola virus-related outbreak in terms of the number of reported cases and deaths (599 cases and 338 deaths across the three countries) and the number of active outbreaks. Since May 2014, Guinea has entered a new phase, following an initial wave of the outbreak between March and late April 2014. As of June 25, 2014, the epidemiological report lists 390 cases, of which at least 260 have been biologically confirmed. Of these cases, 270 have died (observed case fatality rate of 69.2%). Between May 23 and June 25, 2014, three new prefectures (Boffa, Télimélé, and Kouroussa) reported cases of FHV.
