Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of June 18, 2021.
Key Points
COVID-19
In the Pays de la Loire region, SARS-CoV-2 circulation indicators continued to decline significantly in S22 and S23, confirming the slowdown in viral circulation in the region, as observed at the national level. In Week 23, incidence and positivity rates were declining across all age groups, while testing rates showed a smaller decrease. The highest viral circulation was again observed among those aged 15–30, followed by those aged 30–45 and 0–15.
Due to the new national screening strategy for variants of interest and the gradual ramp-up of the use of new screening kits by medical testing laboratories, screening data are not available for Week 23. The latest indicators produced in S22 confirmed the regional predominance of the 20I/501Y.V1 (Alpha) variant among screened RT-PCR-positive cases.
Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS)
The SACS system has been active since June 1 and will remain so until September 15. There was a moderate increase in the proportion of heat-related illnesses in S22 and S23. To date, no heat waves have affected the region.
Gastroenteritis
Following a slowdown in S20 and S21, there was an increase in indicators of calls to SOS Médecins and emergency room visits for gastroenteritis in S22 and S23, most pronounced among children under 5.
