Summary

In Week 8 (February 17–23, 2020), the second week of school vacation, emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits were down among children (–12% and –5%, respectively) and stable among adults.

Seasonal and non-specific indicators were mostly down over the past week. In particular, visits for influenza/flu-like illness decreased across all age groups (-20% across all ages, or -1,765 visits). At the regional level, flu activity is decreasing in most metropolitan areas, with a peak likely reached in week 07. Only visits for asthma attacks among adults are up by 9% (or +88 visits).

The most common conditions remain stable among adults and are decreasing among children, with the exception of injuries among children under 2 years of age (+7%, or +139 visits).
