Oral Health Promotion: What Are the Effective Interventions in Schools?

School-based interventions can be highly effective in preventing dental caries, as demonstrated by the international scientific literature. These interventions must be multidisciplinary, combine fluoride-based brushing with proper nutrition, and work toward improving living conditions and the environment. Professionals must work together with children and parents; however, in the absence of on-the-ground coordination or proper planning, it has been shown that one-off health information or education campaigns do not improve children’s oral health in the long term.
