Flu in Brittany. 2022–2023 Report.

Key Points

  • Early 2022–2023 influenza season (beginning in late November).

  • The epidemic was characterized by the atypical occurrence of two successive waves dominated by different influenza viruses (AH3N2 and B/Victoria, respectively).

  • The first wave of the epidemic, linked to the highly virulent type A virus, was marked by significant severity, particularly among those aged 15–64.

  • Very high intensity at the peak of the epidemic observed between weeks S49-2022 and S51-2022 according to indicators.

  • A second epidemic wave linked to the type B virus was observed in late January; it was of lesser magnitude, primarily affecting those under 15 years of age, and had a low impact in terms of severity.

  • Vaccination coverage in at-risk groups (56.9%) decreased by 1 percentage point compared to the 2021–2022 season (57.8%), falling short of the 75% target.

  • Very intense influenza activity in late December in the community and in hospitals, which coincided with high levels of co-circulation of SARS-CoV-2 and RSV.
