Key Points

Dengue

  • Over the past two weeks, dengue activity in the territory remained low, with 4 confirmed cases (3 in S40 and 1 in S39), including 2 residing in the Western Coast, 1 in the Savanes sector, and 1 outside French Guiana.

  • Since the beginning of the year, 279 cases of dengue have been confirmed in French Guiana, an average of 7 per week. Of these, 139 resided in the Savanes sector, 60 in the Western Coast, 32 on Cayenne Island, 9 in the Maroni region, and 1 in the Eastern Interior. The location was undetermined for 31 cases, and 7 were residents outside French Guiana. Among the 188 serotyped samples, 97% were DENV-2.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases was low and showed a slight increase over the past two weeks, with 10 cases (4 in S39 and 6 in S40, vs. 7 in total in S37 and S38). Among these, 1 was P. falciparum imported from the African continent and 9 were P. vivax cases (no relapses).

  • In total, 129 cases of malaria have been recorded since the beginning of the year. Malaria activity was low and relatively stable over the past two months. Most infections occurred in gold-mining areas.

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Influenza activity was on the rise across the entire territory. Indicators reached a level close to that observed before the epidemic; this should be monitored over the coming weeks.

  • Bronchiolitis activity has been rising slightly over the past two weeks but remains low overall.

  • COVID-19 activity remained low in French Guiana, with three emergency room visits at the three hospitals for this reason in recent weeks.

Diarrhea

  • Activity was moderate, increasing in primary care centers and local hospitals, and rising in the emergency departments of the three hospitals.
