Health Surveillance in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of February 13, 2025.

Key Points

Flu-like Illnesses and Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Both in hospitals and in community settings, indicators of healthcare utilization for influenza-like illness were declining in the Île-de-France region across all age groups for the second consecutive week.

  • The distribution of influenza virus types and subtypes has not undergone any major changes in recent weeks.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)

  • There is an upward trend in the number of SOS Médecins calls for AEG among all age groups and among those under 15 years of age.

  • Increase in the proportion of AGE-related consultations among medical procedures coded by SOS Médecins.

  • There was a moderate increase in emergency department visits for AGE across all age groups, with children under 15 being the most affected. The proportion of AGE-related visits among all coded visits was also on the rise.

  • Similarly, an increase in hospitalizations following emergency department visits was observed, primarily among those under 15 years of age.

  • The incidence rate for acute diarrhea consultations among sentinel physicians increased compared to the previous week, rising from 74 to 81 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins for acute gastroenteritis was similar to trends in 2024.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: In Week 6, the number of cases for suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • Emergency department visits: In S06, the number of visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • Clusters of ARI cases in long-term care facilities: The number of ARI clusters diagnosed as COVID-19 reported by long-term care facilities (primarily nursing homes) remained low since late 2024. Most ARI clusters reported in long-term care facilities in recent weeks involved the influenza virus.

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: Detection levels in wastewater continued to decline in S06.

  • No COVID-19 outbreak was detected despite low vaccination coverage (22% among those aged 65 and older and 7% among at-risk individuals under 65) in Île-de-France, possibly due to high population immunity. This is currently the first winter season (2024–2025) without a COVID-19 epidemic peak since the start of the pandemic.
