Data on reported cases of active TB in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

  • The number of reported cases of active TB in 2017 was the same as in 2016 (246 reported cases and 228 cases residing in and reported within the region).

  • The case notification rate for active TB, all forms combined, was 3.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2017, a low rate that has remained stable since 2010.

  • The TB case notification rate is twice as high among men as among women.

  • Nearly one-third of TB cases are between the ages of 25 and 44, and 4.5% were children under the age of 5.

  • 41% of TB cases placed on treatment in 2017 had no positive bacteriological results (culture and/or smear).

  • Increase in TB cases living in group settings (23%) and TB cases born abroad (54%), of whom 29% arrived in France less than 2 years before diagnosis.

Data on treatment outcomes for active TB cases in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

  • The percentage of cases reported in the 2011–2014 period who completed treatment 12 months after diagnosis of active TB is 69%, and thus does not meet the WHO target of 85%.

  • The percentage of TB cases reported in the 2011–2014 period who were lost to follow-up is high (11%).
