Key Points

• In Occitanie, from May 1 to October 15, 2024, 142 imported cases of dengue and 1 imported case of chikungunya were identified. Five locally transmitted cases of dengue were also identified: 3 in Hérault (including 1 new case in Vendargues) and 2 in Pyrénées-Orientales (with possible transmission in Lozère).

• Three outbreaks of locally transmitted dengue in Occitanie:

  • 2 cases of DENV-1 in the Hérault residing in Vendargues (onset of symptoms [OOS] on 09/08 and 09/09).

  • 1 case in Hérault residing in Montpellier (serotype undetermined) with possible exposure in the town of Pérols (DDS on 06/17); with no new cases reported for 45 days, the outbreak is closed.

  • 2 intrafamilial cases in the Pyrénées-Orientales (serotype undetermined) residing in the municipality of Baho with possible exposure in Florac in Lozère (onset of symptoms on 07/16 and 07/19); in the absence of new cases for 45 days, the outbreak is closed.

• The autochthonous case of dengue in the Gard residing in Aimargues reported in a previous bulletin has been invalidated following additional analyses conducted by the National Arbovirus Center.

• Ten autochthonous cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection have also been identified in Occitanie: 8 in Hérault, including 1 neuroinvasive case (2 in Montpellier, 1 in Teyran, 1 in Vendargues, 2 in Restinclières, 1 in Baillargues, and 1 in Lattes), as well as 2 in the Gard department in Vauvert.
