COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Mayotte as of May 5, 2022
Key Points
Since Week 6, the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been low in Mayotte, below the alert threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. While a slowdown in the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic has been confirmed across all metropolitan regions and age groups, in Mayotte the start of school vacation at the end of Week 17 has led to a rise in indicators across the territory.
Indeed, in week 17, with 90 confirmed cases, the incidence rate stood at 32.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, representing a 67% increase compared to week 16 (54 confirmed cases, incidence rate of 19.3 per 100,000 inhabitants). This incidence rate for Week 17 is the highest rate recorded since Week 6.
In mainland France, the incidence rate was sharply declining across the entire territory in Week 17. In the overseas territories, the incidence rate decreased in Réunion but remained at a very high level (1,300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a 32% decrease compared to Week 16). It remained stable in Martinique (567, -5%), Guadeloupe (680, -3%), and French Guiana (153, +1%).
