Malaria in Mayotte. 2024 Report.

  • Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, 119 cases of malaria were reported in Mayotte. All of these cases were imported, with 82% originating from the Union of the Comoros.

  • Plasmodium falciparum is the predominant species, accounting for 97% of imported cases reported in Mayotte.

  • Among the cases reported in Mayotte in 2024, 33% required hospitalization, including 7 admitted to intensive care

  • No deaths were recorded.

  • Since the beginning of 2025 (data as of 03/25), 20 cases of malaria have been reported in Mayotte, including 19 imported cases and 1 under investigation.

  • No locally acquired malaria cases have been reported in Mayotte since July 2020, but there has been a gradual increase in the number of imported cases over the past four years, peaking in August 2024.

  • Mayotte has been in the malaria elimination phase since 2014. However, with the continued increase in imported cases in recent years, maintaining malaria control measures is essential to prevent a resurgence of transmission in Mayotte.
