In May 2010, an outbreak of Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serotype 4,12:i:-, a monophasic variant of the Typhimurium serotype, was investigated in France. A distinct outbreak strain was identified through MLVA (multilocus variable number of tandem repeat analysis) subtyping. Epidemiological investigations identified a dry sausage sold exclusively by a supermarket chain as the likely vehicle of transmission. The suspect batches were removed from shelves and recalled.
